TEXT ON THE OUTSIDE OF A CIRCLE
by kvalentz

STEP 1. Open a new image 400x400, transparent. Go up to FILE/NEW and use these settings.

Go to LAYER/NEW RASTER LAYER, and name this layer BACKGROUND.

STEP 2.  Click on your preshape tool, and use these settings
shape is either circle or eclipse, whichever you have.

STEP 3.  now go over to your color pallet, and click on the top styles box and select black for your color.  Then left click and hold down on the bottom box, with your cursor, until the little fly bar comes out, and select NULL for that box. If your top styles box is null, just left click and hold down until the fly comes out, and click on the paintbrush. Now you will have just an outline istead of a filled in circle.

STEP4. Now we are going to draw our vector circle, so click
on the preshape tool,

you already have your settings, now go to the upper left hand corner of your image window, and left click, hold the botton down, and drag the cursor to the right, until you have a nice circle, not too big.  It will look like this below.   Then let off of the button.  You need to move the circle to the middle of the image window, to make room for the letters that will go ontop of the circle.  So put your cursor in the middle of the circle, until you get 4 arrows, pointing in all directions, left click when you get that, and drag the circle down until you have room on top for your name.

what you will have.

STEP 5. Now we will add the text.  Go to your text tool

left click on the A, and then move your cursor over the circle until you get a little a with an arc, like this:

you have to have that A and arc, or the words won't go into the shape of the circle.

STEP6. Now click with the left mouse button, and you will get your text box.
Now you will select your text style, size and color here.
Personally, I think that the regular fonts work best for this, the script
fonts can be used, but remember the loops will go down into your picture.
Type in your name, and use these settings. Size 48. Make sure you have
ANTIALIAS checked.  Click on the box that says standard text, and the color
should only be in the bottom box. Click on that box and select a color for
your text. Click on the CENTER ALIGNMENT, where the red arrow is, then click ok, and ok again in the text box.

STEP7. Now your text will be on top of the circle.  We will now delete the circle, leaving only our name.
Go to your layer pallet, if you dont see it, type the letter L, on your keyboard and it will come up.  Hold your cursor over each layer until the word comes up telling you what layer is what.  When you find your circle layer, mine is LAYER 3, right click on that layer, and select DELETE.

Now the circle will be gone, and you will have the marching ants still around your name.  At this point, if you want to add any effects, do it while the ants are still marching, if not, then go to SELECT/SELECT NONE.

STEP 8.  Now we will add our tube to this, right click on the top of the colored bar above your tube with your cursor, to make it active, then click on /COPY  and then go over to your image window that has your name in it, and put your cursor on the top bar of that and RIGHT CLICK/PASTE AS NEW LAYER. Use the mover tool to place it where you want it under your name.
Now we need to merge the layers so go up to LAYERS/MERGE VISIBLE, if you want to keep a transparent background, or LAYERS/MERGE ALL if you want a white background. We will need to crop our image, so go to the crop tool, and make a box around the image, then on your tool control pallet, click on CROP.

STEP 9. Now we need to save our valentine, so if you want to keep it as a tube, go to FILE/SAVE AS, and select psp image. If you merged all the layers, then go to FILE/SAVE AS,  and save as JPEG.
We are done now!!

THESE ARE THE EXAMPLES
